On December 14th 2025, Transdev Nederland officially began operating public transport for the Utrecht-Binnen concession; and the HWGO-concession. Within these operations, technology provided by Pilotfish ensures stable and continuous exchange of data in and out of the vehicle as well as extended monitoring capacity for seamless data integration and enhanced operational reliability.
Following a successful six-month pilot, Pilotfish was selected as the digital partner delivering the open onboard communication platform and the supervision interface needed to support the new digital architecture designed by Transdev. A large part of the vehicles dedicated to Utrecht and HWGO have now been installed with this new range of digital solutions where Pilotfish enables streamlined vehicle data collection, advanced connectivity, monitoring and analytics.
“We are determined to collaborate and deliver an even better experience for our customers. By partnering with Pilotfish and successfully combining our expertise, we are taking a significant step towards even more reliable and future-proof public transport. As a result, this innovative approach to fleet management will lead to improved operational availability and security.” says Edwin Koldenhof, Manager IT Telematics at Transdev Nederland.

With the latest generation of their Vehicle Gateway, the Pilotfish® VG212, Pilotfish powers the digital hub needed by all onboard systems — from ticketing and signage to vehicle positioning and video surveillance — they are all interconnected and report a wide range of data to Transdev’s operations center. This architecture, based on the ITxPT principles (the European initiative defining open standards for public transport IT systems), integrates mixed solutions where modern and legacy systems coexist and remain fully operational. Pilotfish expertise in digital solutions for Public Transport makes this complex environment a reliable and future-ready digital platform.
Stable and reliable connectivity is vital to Transdev’s operations. The dual communication channels embedded into the Pilotfish® VG212 guarantee continuous uptime and secure data transfer, even when buses cross into neighbouring Germany. The Pilotfish® VG212 is connected to its back-office hosted in a cloud infrastructure compliant with the EU’s cybersecurity directive (NIS2) located in Europe, further strengthening cybersecurity and data integrity.
This partnership goes beyond products and technology. Valuable interactions, exchange of expertise and constant support have been provided from both sides from the beginning of this project. With detailed documentation, comprehensive training and assistance, Pilotfish’s solutions have been smoothly integrated into Transdev’s technical environment and operational procedures. As an example, the adoption of Onboard Insight – the user-friendly web interface for vehicles and onboard IT monitoring is now part of Transdev’s routines to quickly identify issues, confirm diagnostics and make informed, data-driven decisions to improve reliability and operational efficiency.
“We are proud to be part of Transdev’s digital transformation. This collaboration for the launch of the new service in Utrecht and HWGO goes far beyond hardware and software delivery – it’s about continuous development, combining our technical expertise with Transdev’s operational insight to create smarter, safer and more efficient public transport.” says Marcus Berglund, CEO of Pilotfish.
The long-term partnership between Transdev Nederland and Pilotfish represents a shared commitment to innovation, reliability and continuous improvement. Together, the companies are setting a new standard for digital fleet management in Europe — built on open architecture, real-time insight and secure connectivity.
